Carrie loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She loved the outdoors and spent her summer working in the garden planting flower and vegetables. Carrie worked 20 years at Sears in Hot Springs and moved to Scott County and began working on the farm as a Tyson Chicken grower for another 18 years. Carrie and Gerald retired to Polk County in 2005. She enjoyed sitting on her front porch watching the cows grazing in the field. Carrie loved her church family and served the Lord at the Concord Baptist Church in Ink. Carrie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend and will be missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Arnold Burroughs, and one daughter Carol Hannah.
Carrie is survived by her husband of 31 years, Gerald Sparks of Mena; two daughters and sons-in-law Susan and Alan Henry of Raleigh, North Carolina and Deborah and Jonathan Stowe of Plano, Texas; one son and daughter-in-law Missy and Scott Connelly of Hot Springs; two stepsons and daughters-in-law Tiffany and David Sparks of Lonoke, Arkansas and Danielle and Jeff Sparks of Maumelle; one son-in-law Travis Hannah of Clinton; sister and brother-in-law Susie and Mike Duffey of Katy, Texas; thirteen grandchildren, five great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Concord Baptist Church in Ink with Brother Jerry Taylor officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations in her memory to The American Cancer Society, C/O Richard and Regina Lawry, 112 Sherwood Forest, Mena, Arkansas 71953 and The Area Agency on Aging of Western Arkansas Inc. at 600 7th Street, Mena, AR 71953.
