Eugene Taff owns and operates the Country Express in Mena, located at 1146 Highway 71 South in Mena.
“I purchased Country Express in November of 1990,” said Taff. “Business is going fine. We have great BBQ and catfish. You can eat in or take out. We also sell gas. We’re a one stop shop with everything from snake oil to great food. We also have daily lunch specials. And, we also cater food to events and parties.”
According to Taff, the Country Express is a gathering place for many in the community. A place to talk and visit with friends while sipping coffee and eating great food. “We depend on the public to keep us in business,” said Taff. “We have 10 employees. We open at 5:30 a.m. and close at 8:30 p.m. in the winter and during the summer we close at 9 p.m. We are closed Sundays.
Taff is proud that Country Express expanded into the catering business and hopes everyone will keep them in mind during the upcoming holiday season. “As the holiday’s are approaching, keep Country Express in mind for your holiday parties,” said Taff. “We will be smoking turkeys and hams. So give us a call and place your orders.”
BBQ is a staple in the south and Country Express has earned the reputation as being one of the best. Every Tuesday is buy one pork sandwich, get one free at Country Express. Other items on the menu include, Baby Back Ribs, you can get the Rib Special of three ribs, or a half rack, or a whole rack. Beef brisket and pulled pork by the pound with choice of BBQ sauce, and for the seafood lover, they offer shrimp dinners, fish dinners with cole slaw, fries, pinto beans and hush puppies.
Country Express also features char-grilled burgers and sandwiches. Cheeseburgers, patty melts, grilled chicken, steak sandwich, grilled cheese, grilled chicken club sandwich, ham sandwich, B.L.T. sandwich and BBQ pork and beef sandwiches.
