Identities Released in Fatal Plane Crash


The occupants of a plane crash near Pine Bluff, Arkansas yesterday [Wednesday, June 8, 2016] have been identified and confirmed by Arkansas State Police as two local area residents. Phillip Sloan, age 66 of Mena, was piloting the plane, and carried one passenger, Ross Goodner, age 19 of Boles.

Sloan was pronounced dead at the scene when the small engine aircraft he was piloting crashed in a wooded area of rural southwest Jefferson County near the Grant County line.

Goodner was injured in the crash and transported from the scene by ambulance and taken to a Pine Bluff hospital where he was admitted in stable condition.

The area of the crash was reported to be partially wooded but mostly clearcut of timber. The scene was secured by Arkansas State Police and turned over to the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration), who will coordinate the investigation to determine the manner and cause of the crash.  The plane was registered to Mike Shepard, also of Mena.
