A Pocola, Oklahoma woman lost her life on Sunday, October 15, 2017 following a fatal motorcycle accident on Rich Mountain. The accident was a single vehicle accident. According to the Arkansas State Police who investigated the crash, 51-year old Laura Faye Juelfs was traveling eastbound on Hwy. 88 West, on the Talimena Scenic Drive, when she failed to negotiate a curve and collided into a guardrail on the north side of the highway.
Conditions were listed as clear and dry. Juelfs was in town for the Christian Motorcyclists Association’s Annual Changing of the Colors Rally that kicks off this week on Iron Mountain in Hatfield.
Another accident involving a motorcycle occurred on Monday, October 16, in front of McDonald’s in Mena. According to Mena Police reports, a 16-year old driver in a 1999 Ford Crown Victoria was driving eastbound on Highway 71 in the inside lane when he tried to turn right into McDonald’s driveway. At that time, he struck a 2012 Harley Davidson motorcycle that was in the outside lane, also traveling east. The driver of the motorcycle, Christopher Jones, age 63, of Abilene, Texas is listed as uninjured. However, the motorcycle’s passenger, 64-year old Redonna Jones, also of Abliene, Texas, sustained unknown injuries and was transported by Southwest EMS to Mena Regional Health System and later airlifted to another facility with a leg injury. The driver of the car was faulted for the accident , citing Improper Right Turn.
