This year, the Farm Bureau Women are hosting a Spam Recipe Contest at the 2017 Polk County Fair. This contest is a spin-off of the national Great American Spam Recipe contest hosted at the Arkansas State Fair each October.
Farm Bureau Women are asking that you prepare your dish at home and deliver it to the fair for on-site judging at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 31. There is a $5.00 entry fee and you must use at least one can of any SPAM® variety and up to 10 additional ingredients. Simplicity and taste are the main judging criteria.
Farm Bureau will sponsor a $50- 1st place prize, $25- 2nd place prize, and $15- 3rd place prize at the Polk County Fair. Registration and fee is due to the Extension Office by Friday, August 25 at 4:30 p.m. Celebrity judges will be on-site judging from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Farm Bureau Women will use the proceeds to benefit Farmers Feeding Families program that the county Women’s Group has chosen to support. This program provides contributions to local food banks, schoolchildren, and families who are underserved.
Participants in the county event are encouraged to take their dish to The Great American SPAM® Championship Contest Recipe Challenge at the Arkansas State Fair to be held in October. This fun competition is for those fans who enjoy cooking for friends and family (home cooks, not professional chefs). Entrants compete for prizes (up to $150 for 1st place), blue ribbons and a shot at the coveted grand prize, a trip to the Waikiki SPAM JAM® Festival.
