Veterans will be celebrated on November 11, 2017 in downtown Mena with a parade that will begin on North Mena Street. Organizer Linda Johnson, Commandant of VFW Post #4451, is encouraging everyone to participate including individuals, military organizations, fire and police departments, schools, motorcycle clubs, car clubs, etc.
The Veteran’s Day Parade will begin at 10 a.m. on November 11th. Interested parties that would like to participate are encouraged to call Johnson by November 3rd to register at 956-241-2633. There will be trophies awarded to the top three entries.
Following the parade, a Veteran’s Day Memorial Service will he held at the Mena Elks Lodge on Hwy. 375 East.
Veterans and their families will also be honored with a luncheon for the fourth year in a row by local businesses on November 11th at 11 a.m. at the Historic Armory on DeQueen Street in Mena. The luncheon is free to veterans and their families. On the menu this year are burgers and brats with all the fixins’.
Local schools are also hosting special programs for the veterans of the area. Mena Middle School EAST will host a program on November 3rd at the Mena High School Performing Arts Center at 1:30 p.m. Cossastot River High School EAST students will host a program at Wickes Elementary on November 8th.
