An 18-wheeler drove into a vacated building adjacent to Southern Auto Supply on Highway 71 at approximately 6 p.m. this evening. Witnesses on the scene said the driver appeared to have veered off the roadway while entering the curve just past Dan’s Pawn & Gun. The driver was north bound on Highway 71.
Upon leaving the roadway, the truck struck the corner of the building and jack-knifed leaving the entire truck cab inside the building with the trailer extending toward the roadway.
Officers from Mena Police Department and Mena Fire Department were on the scene. The driver was transported by EMS to Mena Regional Health System. The driver did not appear to have sustained any major injuries and was expected to be released from the hospital later this evening.
