On Tuesday, June 16, at 5:30 pm in the Mena Art Gallery, 607 Mena Street, Cynthia Thanos-Wade will demonstrate some techniques she uses to create watercolor paintings.
She will show how she uses masking to retain light colored areas, how she uses “mask and pouring” techniques to move the paint across the page, and how these can be combined. She started doing this years ago, mostly for flowers.
She found this same technique could be applied and used with dancers, so she began doing paintings and commissions of American Tribal Belly Dancers. She sometimes works from photos sent to her to create paintings and has created a book of the paintings.
This presentation is a part of the gallery’s ongoing monthly “Art Awareness” programs featuring local artists showing us how they create their work. It is open to the public and admission is free.
