Listeners, change that dial!

By Ethan Nahté

Before the days of satellite radio and streaming, the adage “Don’t change that dial” was heard by DJs and TV personalities across the nation. But KQOR 105.3 The Mountain is shaking things up once more. This time, instead of changing the music format, the classic country station is changing frequencies to 102.1.

Jamie Hammack, KQOR and KENA general manager, said, “We are excited about this change at KQOR-FM The Mountain to a frequency the people of Mena and Polk County are familiar with. As you know 102.1 was once the frequency home of KENA-FM. This change is possible because of the added wattage we are gaining, going from 25,000 effective watts to 50,000. In order to gain this added power, we had to change our frequency so we do not interrupt the signal of another station at the 105.3 dial position from Northwest Arkansas. This added power will give us a stronger signal in northern Sevier County, Shady, Heavener and Mount Ida.”

You can “hear that train a comin’. It’s rolling round the bend,” on Monday, May 12. So, change that dial from 105.3 to 102.1 if you harken back to Waylon, Willie and the Boys.
