The Polk County Sheriff’s Department continues investigating a shooting in which Billy Vaught was injured at his home during the very early hours of Saturday morning. Police were notified after the victim arrived at Mena Regional Health System.
Upon questioning, Vaught identified his assailant as Lori Rose, age 38, of Mena. Rose was taken into custody at her residence without incident. She is currently being held in the Polk County Detention Center on charges of Domestic Battery 2nd Degree, Aggravated Assault, Terroristic Threatening and Residential Burglary. Rose has a bond of $250,000. She will be arraigned on Wednesday, November 27th.
A source close to the investigation said that the suspect entered Vaught’s home while he was sleeping. He awoke as she cocked the high-powered rifle and was able to knock it downward when the gun discharged, striking him in his leg. Vaught is hospitalized in Hot Springs, Ark.
