A pedestrian was hit on Hwy 71, approximately 1.5 miles south of CMA Headquarters, at approximately 2 a.m. Saturday morning.
According to Polk County Sheriff Mike Godfrey, Floyd T. Frederick, age 40 of Hatfield, had been checking on another vehicle that was off in the ditch and then inadvertently stepped into oncoming traffic. The driver of the 2005 VW Jetta, which struck Frederick, was a 27-year old Oklahoma man and was not cited or charged in the incident.
This is the second pedestrian to have been struck by a vehicle in less than a month.
Frederick, who sustained multiple injuries, was taken to Mena Regional Health System for treatment and later transported by ambulance to Baptist Health. Godfrey said that a toxicology report had been ordered on Frederick but the results of those tests have not yet been received.
