Thrills & Spills Expected at this Weekend’s Chuck Wagon Races

This weekend, area residents will have the rare opportunity to witness chuckwagon races at the Tin Top Ranch located in western Scott County.

The event is sanctioned by the Arkansas Chuckwagon Race Association and according to the local coordinator, S.A. Walls, over 500 people are expected. Walls said he hosted the event in 2012 that attracted 79 three-person (driver, cook, and outrider) teams but that it was rained out in 2013, “So, I’m ready for this year’s event more than ever.”

Walls said the three day event will begin on Friday, March 28th and conclude after the award presentations on Sunday, March 30. It will not only include the 8 classes of chuckwagon races, but also trail rides, a cowboy church service by Bro. Kane Riggs, and also a country/western dance with a live band.

He explained that this is the second race of the season and teams must compete in at least 7 races to make it into the state finals.

Tin Top Ranch, Walls said, is a 160-acre development that includes a Bed & Breakfast but admitted, most participants for this event are “campers” and represent ages across the board.

He said the event is enjoyable for spectators as well and he is hopeful area residents will join the festivities, “We’re just a bunch of hillbillies having fun!”
