The Acorn Lady Tigers met up again with Kirby’s Lady Trojan’s for the 1A Regional Championship Saturday, February 27. The last time the two teams clashed was in Tiger Territory and the Lady Trojans dominated the ball and kept the Lady Tigers from claiming their 1A District Championship on their home turf. From the very first moment the ladies took to the court, it was obvious that Coach Iron Mike Jackson and his team had made adjustments and were more than ready to rise to the challenge.
The Lady Tigers lead in scoring through the entire game. 25-20 at the end of the 1st with 15 of those points made by Faith Hill. Acorn continued dominating in the 2nd quarter and left the court at the half with a 35-30 lead. Their lead tightened during the 4th and with only 4:20 left, the Lady Tigers had only a 1-point advantage with a score of 37-36.
The Lady Trojans trailed the Lady Tigers until there was only :60 left on the clock and they went to the line for two free-throws, making them both and now leading 41-40. With mere seconds left on the clock, Iron Mike called a timeout and when they resumed, Faith Hill drove for the goal and was fouled but it was missed by the officials, leaving the final score of the game with a Lady Trojan victory of 41-40. Hill lead the team with 23 points; Ashlee Long, 8 points; and Teagan Van, 5 points.
The Lady Tigers were 1A Regional First Runners Up and will play Scranton in Round 1 of the 7West 1A State Play-offs at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 3. The game will be broadcast on KENA 104.1FM.
