The Mena Ladycats have started their journey towards another state title, beginning their 2016 season on Monday, February 29th on home turf. Union Bank Park was packed with fans as the Ladycats took on the Ozark Hillbillies.
Opening pitcher, Jordan Ward’s offseason work paid off in the first game, always working on something new and sharpening her skills and bringing in 14 strikeouts. The Ladycats jumped scoring on the Lady Hillbillies in the first inning.
Returning players from the state championship team were scattered throughout the field. Seniors Macy and Madelyn Brotherton were among the many who scored, hitting home runs that soared. The Ladycats took advantage and scored in every inning with exception to the second. After 7 innings, they defeated Ozark 8 to 2. The Ladycats will be back in action on Wednesday against Charleston at Union Bank Park, and on Friday at Lake Hamilton.
