The Mena Bearcats swept the Mena Classic at Union Bank Park this weekend in high school baseball action.
The Bearcats slipped past Acorn 8-6 on Friday afternoon. Mena came back Saturday to nip Mount Ida 6-5, before finishing up the day with a convincing 13-5 victory over Cossatot River.
In the 8-6 win over Acorn Friday, Mena plated three runs in the fourth inning to erase a 6-5 Tiger lead. Caleb Peters, Riley Gilbert, and Aaron McConnell shared mound duties for Mena. Gilbert was credited with the win. Braylan Bohlman and Nathan Watts pitched for Acorn.
At the plate, Austin Rose, Gilbert, and Blake Castor each had two RBI’s for the Bearcats. Peters also had two hits for Mena. Raymond Hannaman knocked in three runs for Acorn. Jeremiah Swint had a pair of hits.
In Saturday’s action, Mena scored a walk-off 6-5 win over Mount Ida with a run in the bottom of the seventh inning. The winning run scored after the Lions had tied the game with three in the top half of the inning.
Kyndon Schuller was the big stick for Mena with three hits, two runs scored, and two RBI’s. Marc Wilson had a pair of hits, a run scored, and a RBI. Blake Castor, the third Mena pitcher in the game, was credited with the victory. Blake Brown and Schuller also pitched in the game for Mena.
And in Saturday’s final game, Mena scored in every inning to turn back Cossatot River 13-5. Sam Efird had two hits, including a homerun and four RBI’s. Schuller had two hits, three runs scored, and three RBI’s. Five Bearcats saw mound action. Riley Gilbert was credited with the win.
The Bearcats are 4-1 on the season.
