A routine traffic stop resulted in a suspect fleeing on foot this morning. Arkansas State Trooper Chris Garner attempted to stop a speeding Nissan car southbound on Hwy 71 just north of the Acorn community at approximately 10 a.m. when it’s driver, Timothy Charles Palmer, fled. After a short chase, Palmer turned into a driveway and fled on foot into the woods.
Garner, with assistance from the Polk County Sheriff’s Department, canvassed the area for approximately 30 minutes.
Palmer, while hiding in the woods, made a phone call to a friend, Gary Eugene Alan, to come and pick him up. Officers observed Alan stopping along Hwy 71 while Palmer exited the woods and both were apprehended at that time.
Palmer, age 31 of 3534 Hwy 8E in Mena, had recently had his driver’s license suspended following a DWI charge. He also had outstanding warrants and is now being charged with speeding, fleeing, failure to yield, and careless driving.
Alan was also taken into custody for multiple outstanding warrants from multiple counties.
Both are being detained in the Polk County Detention Center awaiting arraignment.
