Friday the 13th turned out to be Don Sproles’ lucky day when Mena Mayor, George McKee, drew Sproles’ name from a spinning hopper filled with raffle tickets. The drawing, held at Mena Art Gallery, was the culmination of two months of ticket sales by members of the Photo Show Committee and area banks, including Chambers, Diamond, First National, and Union. “I never expected to win,” Sproles told committee members. “I just figured I was making a donation to a good cause.”
The 24.2 megapixel Nikon D3200 DSLR camera package was valued at $775. Proceeds from the ticket sales will provide cash awards for Mena Art Gallery’s annual photography show to be held in August of 2014. Mena Art Gallery wishes to thank Wal-Mart, Atwood’s, James Super Save, and American Artisans for allowing committee members to sell tickets in front of their businesses.
