Acorn-Oden Elementary Receives Wal-Mart Community Grant

Acorn-Oden Elementary received the Wal-Mart Community Grant in the amount of $1250 to support reading instruction. All Acorn and Oden teachers of reading have been trained by the Institute for Multisensory Education to teach reading using Orton Gillingham methodology. The Orton Gillingham strategies are multi-sensory incorporating all of the learning pathways. The instruction is direct and explicit and teachers observe and assess daily to be sure the student is progressing. Receiving the Wal-Mart Community Grant enabled the teachers to purchase materials to supplement and enhance their instruction.
Acorn and Oden teachers met on August 1st at Acorn Elementary to practice reading strategies and to prepare materials for the upcoming year.
We appreciate the Wal-Mart Foundation for recognizing that supporting our schools to help our students reach their full reading potential strengthens and builds our community. We also thank Union Bank who contributed to this effort and for always being ready to help.
