Friday, January 5, 2018, the Mena Bearcats senior high basketball team traveled to Prescott to take on the Curley Wolves.
The first quarter set the tone for what turned out to be a tightly knit game, as both teams scored thirteen points apiece, to go into the second quarter tied. Mena and the Curley Wolves continued to play close in the second, however, the Bearcats were able to a score a one-point advantage, to take a 32-31 lead into halftime.
In the third quarter, as Prescott along with the Bearcats, scored seventeen points each, Mena held onto its one point lead into the final quarter of play, up 49-48. Thanks to two free throws by Nick Myers with 12.1 seconds left in the game, the Bearcats were able to cap off their rough and hard fought game with a victory. Outscoring the Curley Wolves by one, 12-11, in the final quarter, Mena won by two, 61-59.
Connor Harvey led the Mena Bearcats with 20 points on the night, as Daniel Davis and Blake Seals both added on 13 points apiece, Nick Myers 11 points, and Brock Strother and Marc Wilson 2 points each.
On Tuesday, January 9th, the Bearcats hosted the Nashville Scrappers, and will back at home in the Union Bank Center again on Friday, January 12th, against Genoa Central.
