The Arkansas State Highway Commission will begin work on a few roadways in South Polk County soon, with some causing detours in normal commutes for Cove citizens.
The resurfacing of Lewis Street and a section of West Barton Avenue in Cove is anticipated to begin in early June according to Cove’s Mayor, Joan Headley. Approximately 1.5 miles of the streets will be resurfaced. This project, in addition to 1.3 miles of resurfacing in Wickes on Oak Grove Road and Old Highway 71, will be completed by Crow Paving, Inc., of Morrilton, whose awarded contract is $478,386.40.
Mayor Headley said she was told by the contractor that a portion of each street will be temporarily closed while the work is being done. Mayor Headley added she is sorry for the inconvenience these closures will cause, but it is for the safety of all involved and should only be for a short period of time. “We appreciate everyone’s cooperation during this time,” said Mayor Headley. If you have any questions or concerns about the projects in Cove, all are welcome to call Cove Town Hall at 870-387-5791.
The Arkansas State Highway Commission also plans to resurface 0.5 miles of Mershon Dr. in Hatfield. Crow Paving, Inc. of Morrilton was also awarded that contract at $259,155.69.
