Over 200 runners and walkers participated in a benefit 5K in Acorn on Saturday morning. The Davis 5K Fun Run was held to benefit the family of Mary Davis who has been battling Leiomyosarchoma cancer for seven years this month. Davis, only 46 years old, was unable to attend but was represented by her mother-in-law, Pauline Davis.
“I just don’t know what we would do without the community of Acorn. The whole community has just been wonderful. We think this race is what she’s been holding on for,” said Pauline. “She would be really proud,” she added.
Davis, who retired from the Army last year, had three ‘army buddies’ travel to Acorn for the race which raised approximately $6000.
The top male finishers were, 1st Place – Jeff Dutton; 2nd Place – Chet Dycus; 3rd Place – Chris Ledbetter. The top female finishers were 1st Place – Krysten Fagan; 2nd Place – Jasmine Jackson; 3rd Place – Morgan Fagan.
