Holly Harshman Elementary fathers and sons were provided free admission and free popcorn and coke at the Bearcat vs. Mansfield game on Friday, September 20, 2013. Pictured are the group as they were recognized on the field at pre-game. The Holly Harshman Elementary Parent Teacher Organization sponsored the event as one of the many opportunities throughout the year that family involvement activities are provided. The event preceeded a very important day which is Family Day, Monday, September 23, 2013. Involved parents making a difference is the whole idea behind Family Day. This initiative was launched over a decade ago, with the goal of getting families to eat meals together more often. Studies have shown that when families make it a habit to eat dinner together, teenagers are less likely to use drugs and alcohol and less likely to have high stress. Kids of all ages do better in school, especially reading. Plus, it’s great bonding time. Parents Make ALL difference!!! Other family involvement events coming at HHE will be Mommy/Me Matinee in November; Mom & Son Make and Take Day in February; and the 3rd annual Father/Daughter Night which will be in March.
