The scourge of Fentanyl is being felt nationwide and here in Arkansas. Arkansas law enforcement and prosecutors are taking the fight to drug dealers.
Prosecutors arrested 49 people in the state this month for fentanyl trafficking operations. 15 people were arrested statewide Wednesday morning in the third major law enforcement operation this month aimed at drug dealers and Fentanyl. On Wednesday an indictment was unsealed which revealed that 23 people are accused of participating in the drug trafficking organization.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, Pharmaceutical grade Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid pain reliever that is 50 to 100 times more potent than morphine. Most U.S. cases of deaths or overdoses related to Fentanyl are linked to illegally made Fentanyl where it is often mixed with heroin or cocaine to increase its euphoric effects.
