The Acorn Lady Tigers took on the Kirby Lady Trojans in the 1A 7-West Senior Girls District Basketball Championship game, Friday February 17th, at Acorn High School.
Acorn started the ballgame on a 7-3 run, forcing the Lady Trojans to call a quick timeout with 4:22 left in the first quarter. After the timeout, the Lady Tigers went on to score six more points to Kirby’s five, making the score 13-8 after one. The Lady Tigers started extending their lead in the second quarter, as Kirby allowed 20 points to Acorn, while the Lady Trojans were held to just 14. After two quarters, the score was 33-22 in favor of the Lady Tigers at halftime.
Number twenty-two, Smith, led Kirby with 11 points at the half, as Faith Hill led the Lady Tigers with 16 points.
The game didn’t get any better for Kirby in the third quarter, as their offense was held to 12 points, while their defense gave up 20 points to the Lady Tigers, to make the score 53-34 going into the final quarter of play. Acorn didn’t let up in the fourth quarter, as the Lady Tigers outscored Kirby 18-8, to win the game and become 1A 7-West District Champions by 29 points, with a score of 71-42.
Smith led the Kirby Lady Trojans with 11 points, while Ramsey and Harmon added on 6 each, Swanson 5, number twelve 4, Anderson and Reid 3, and Price and Duggan 2.
Faith Hill led the Acorn Lady Tigers with 31 points on the night, while Tori Barrett scored 12 of her own, Sophie Jackson 9, Brooke Bates 5, Morgan Fagan 4, Braxlie, Strother, and Sydney Crawford 3, and Brittany Wilhite and McKenzie Goss 2.
The Lady Tigers next game will be at Regionals at County Line High School, February 22nd-25th.
