Mena Junior Boys Claim District Runner-Up; Junior Girls Show Exciting Future

The Mena Bearcat and Ladycat Junior Track teams traveled to Nashville for their District Track Meet on Thursday, April 20, 2017. The junior girls brought home several medals after a long day of competition against some of the toughest in the area.

In the 200 meter dash, Andrea Maechler took 8^th. Ciara Lance placed 4^th in the 400 meter dash. Alex Harper placed 2^nd in the 800 meter with Jayden Harris coming in 5^th. In the 1600 meter run, Jayden Harris placed 1^st, with Alex Harper right behind in 2^nd and Aryana Carter in 5^th. Lauren Sikes placed 5^th in the 100 meter hurdles.

Cadie Cannon placed 5^th in high jump and Emily Wagner placed 8^th. Madyson Birtcher placed 6^th in discus.

In relay events, the 4×800 meter relay team took 1^st place, 4×400 relay placed 3^rd, and the 4×100 and 4×200 meter relay teams took 5^th place.

The junior boys brought home a runner-up plaque for their efforts at the meet. Zane Stephens took 5^th in the 100 meter dash and 6^th in the 200 meter dash. Iaza Ingoglia placed 4^th in the 400 meter dash and Curtis Curry placed 6^th.

In the 800 meter run, Curtis Curry placed 1^st with Devin Adams in 2^nd, Logan Myers 4^th, and Damon Clark 6^th. In the 1,600 meter run, Devin Adams placed 1^st, Logan Myers 3^rd, Thaddaeus Nance 4^th, and Caleb Peters 6^th. Chris Bollmeyer took 6^th in the 110 meter hurdles.

The 4×800 meter relay team took 1^st place, while the 4×400 and 4×200 relay teams took 3^rd, and the 4×100 meter relay team took 5^th.

Caleb Holmes brought home 1^st in the long jump with Zane Stephens taking 3^rd and Jake Wiles 6^th. In triple jump, Caleb Homes took 5^th place, Zane Stephens 7^th, and Mark Wilson 8^th. Mathew McCravens took 4^th in Pole Vault with Thaddaeus Nance coming in 7^th and Jetzai Hernandez taking 8^th. Braxton Bahr placed 6^th in shot put and Blake Castor placed 7^th. Bahr took 1^st place in discus with Castor placing 5^th.

The Mena junior track season ended with the district meet, but the coaches are looking forward to working with the rising athletes for upcoming seasons.
