DE QUEEN – A Mena Man is facing numerous charges in Sevier County after he was arrested earlier this week for impersonating a police officer alongside other criminal offenses.
According to the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office, 47-year-old John Joe Mejia (pronounced Meh-hee-ah) of Mena is facing one count of criminal impersonation in addition to possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Mejia was arrested on Feb. 20 after deputies with the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office were informed that a man hanging around the Horatio EZ-Mart was seemingly impersonating a police officer. The man allegedly told cashiers that he was an undercover cop and would drive across the state at speeds of 100mph. The cashiers’ suspicions were raised in part after they witnessed the man enter a vehicle with evident body damage.
Officers located the suspect on Highway 41 and identified him as Mejia. During their investigation deputies reportedly discovered two fake badges, a fake pistol, suspected methamphetamine and related drug paraphernalia.
Mejia was then taken into custody and transported to the Sevier County Jail. He is currently awaiting his next court appearance on a $50,000 bond.
