MHS Playwright Places in Statewide Competition

Young Playwright Allison Austin of Mena High School recently won the right to have a play that she wrote be performed at Henderson State University for a statewide Playwright Competition. Allison’s play, A Day in the Life of a Waitress, placed 1st Runner-Up. The play was performed by Ms. Kropp’s Theater Arts II class. Allison submitted her script last school year. It was read and judged by some of the best in the theater industry, some coming from as far away as New York.  After making it to the final selection, Allison began the casting selection and put her words to action to create a laugh out loud comedy.  In addition to Allison’s outstanding win, awards were also given to Carly Gear for best actress and Chris Kuakahela for best actor.  Pictured L to R: Front Row:  Advisor Jessica Kropp, Veronica Vanbuskirk, Carly Gear, Maddison Peppers, and Rachel Buck.
