A tremendous crowd turned out for the grand-opening ceremony of the impressive new $15 million Cossatot River High School Thursday evening. Above, Interim Superintendent and members of the Cossatot River School Board proudly cut the ribbon and then opened the doors to the 2.25-acre facility to showcase to the community.
Former State Representative and current Executive Director of the Rural Education Association Bill Abernathy was among the speakers. Abernathy was instrumental in facilitating the consolidation of the Van-Cove and Wickes School Districts. He commended the leadership and the communities for their vision.
The facility is beautifully situated near the Vandervoort junction and all the materials selected are complimented by the natural beauty of the area. The well-equipped school will offer expanded academic opportunities for area 7th -12th grade students as well as additional athletic and agri programs.
The evening was a celebration of the beginning of a new chapter for education in South Polk County.
