Polk County Sheriff’s Department – May 5 – 11, 2014

The following information was received from Polk County Sheriff Mike Godfrey for the week of May 5 – May 11, 2014.  The charges against those arrested are allegations and the cases are still pending in the courts.  Individuals charged and whose names appear in this column may submit documentation to us at a later date that the charges have been dismissed or that they have been found innocent and we will include that information in this space in a timely manner.

May 5, 2014

Report of a suspicious structure fire on Polk 16 near Vandervoort.  Investigation continues.

Report from complainant on Polk 25 near Cove of the break-in and theft of appliances and furniture from a camper trailer, causing extensive damage.  Investigation continues.

Traffic stop on Polk 45 near the Potter community led to the arrest of Kenneth A. Alexandria, 21, of Mena, on Charges of Careless/Prohibited Driving and Driving with a Suspended Driver’s License.

Arrested by a trooper with the Arkansas State Police was Phillip T. Hackney, 42, of Mena, on Charges of DWI, Driving with a Suspended Driver’s License, No Vehicle Registration and No Liability Insurance.

Report from complainant on Polk 21 near Cove of the theft of a wallet and checkbook, causing losses of $30.00.  Investigation continues.

Arrested was Norman J. Botarf, 34, of Mena, on a Warrants for Probation Violation, Failure to Comply with a Court Order and Registered Offender Living in a Restricted Area.

Report of a suspicious material led to a 16-year-old Wickes male being issued a Juvenile Citation for Possession of a Counterfeit Substance.  The juvenile was released to the custody of a parent/guardian.

Arrested was Charles D. Miner, 40, of Mansfield, on a Warrant for Failure to Comply with a Court Order.

Arrested was Joshua J. Thompson, 23, of Mena, on a Warrant for Failure to Comply with a Court Order.

May 8, 2014

Report from complainant on Polk 185 near the Ink community of the theft of a plow, valued at $500.00.  Investigation continues.

Report from complainant on Highway 375 East near Mena of the theft of jewelry, valued at $950.00.  Investigation continues.

May 9, 2014

Report from complainant on Polk 41 near the Potter community of the theft of appliances and electronics, totaling losses at $950.00.  Investigation continues.

Report of a 6-year-old juvenile female walking alone on a county road.  Information has been provided to the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for further consideration.

Report of a domestic disturbance on Polk 76 West near Mena led to the arrest of Stephen L. Cox, 33, of Mena, on a Charge of Disorderly Conduct.  Also arrested was Desiree L. Cox, 30, of Mena, on a Charge of two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Minor.

May 10, 2014

Report from complainant on Butler Circle in Hatfield of being harassed by acquaintances.  Information has been provided to the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for further consideration.

Report of an unresponsive individual on an ATV at intersection of Polk 18 & 15 near Hatton.   Individual was transported to Mena Regional Health System.

May 11, 2014

Arrested was Mark A. Solomon, 27, of Mena, on a Warrant for Absconding.

Report from a business in Cove of a parking lot accident, causing $100.00 in damages.  Investigation continues.

Polk County Sheriff’s Office worked three vehicle accidents this week.

Polk County Detention Center Jail Population: 30 Incarcerated Inmates; 13 Inmates currently on the Waiting List for a State Facility, of which 4 are currently out of jail on a monitoring system.
