The following information was received from Polk County Sheriff Mike Godfrey for the week of August 5 – August 11, 2013. The charges against those arrested are allegations and the cases are still pending in the courts. Individuals charged and whose names appear in this column may submit documentation to us at a later date that the charges have been dismissed or that they have been found innocent and we will include that information in this space in a timely manner.
August 5, 2013
Arrested was Randall D. Burkett, 56, of Mena, on a Federal Warrant.
Report of a person laying partially in the roadway on Highway 88 East near Mena. Officer determined subject was walking, had become too hot and passed out. Subject was transported via ambulance to Mena Regional Health System.
Report from complainant on Stagecoach Lane near Mena of the theft of a circular saw, valued at $100.00. Investigation continues.
Traffic stop on Highway 71 North in Mena led to the arrest of Amber D. Hakola, 23, of Wickes, on Charges of DWI Drugs, Possession of a Controlled Substance and No Liability Insurance.
August 6, 2013
Report from complainant on Polk 274 near Vandervoort of the break-in and theft of a television, saw horses and shoes, all valued at $600.00. Investigation continues.
Report from walk-in complainant of being harassed by an acquaintance. Information has been provided to the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for further consideration.
Arrested was James E. Simmons, 26, of Mena, on Warrants for Failure to Comply with a Court Order and two counts of Failure to Appear.
August 7, 2013
Report from complainant on Polk 51 near Mena of the theft of prescription medication valued at $20.00. Information has been provided to the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for further consideration.
Arrested was David J. Whelpley, 30, on a Kerr County, Texas Warrant for Sexual Assault 2nd Degree.
Report from complainant on Polk 151 near Hatfield of the fraudulent use of a credit card, totaling losses at $234.19. Information has been provided to the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for further consideration.
Arrested was Michael D. Raines, 49, of Hatfield, on a Body Attachment Warrant.
August 8, 2013
Report from complainant on Polk 53 near Mena of the theft of a vehicle valued at $2,000.00. Information has been provided to the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for further consideration.
Report from a local fire department on Polk 70 in the Cherry Hill community of the theft of fuel, totaling losses at $852.25. Investigation continues.
Arrested was Isaac L. B. Cain, 20, of Mena, on Charges of Breaking and Entering and Theft.
August 9, 2013
Arrested was Jason A. Aswell, 30, of Mena, on a Warrant for Probation Violation.
Report of an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound in Cove. Information has been provided to the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for further consideration.
Arrested was Clinton W. Mahaffey, 29, of Smithville, OK, on a Warrant for Failure to Comply with a Court Order.
August 10, 2013
Report of an individual slumped over the steering wheel in a vehicle on Polk 18 near Cove led to the arrest of Jeffery L. Turner, 41, of Cove, on Charges of Driving with a Suspended Driver’s License and No Liability Insurance.
August 11, 2013
Report from complainant on Highway 88 East near the Ink community of being the victim of an attempted scam. Officer advised subject to have no further contact.
Traffic stop on Highway 246 West near Hatfield led to the arrest of Ronald J. Bowles, 21, of Cove, on Charges of DWI, Careless Driving, Misdemeanor Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of a Schedule VI Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Furnishing Prohibited Articles. Also arrested was Korie N. Wilhite, 21, of Mena, on Charges of Misdemeanor Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of a Schedule VI Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Public Intoxication.
Report of an unresponsive individual in a vehicle on Polk 38 near the Potter community led to the arrest of Beth E. Wright, 50, of Mena, on Charges of DWI, Driving with a Suspended Driver’s License, No Vehicle Tags and No Liability Insurance.
Arrested was Daniela Salazar, 26, of Dequeen, on a Warrant for Failure to Appear.
