The City of Mena hosted a public meeting on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 to identify outdoor park and recreation needs for a matching grant application. The meeting was held at Fire Station #2 with more than two dozen in attendance.
Parks and Recreation Manager, Nathan Fowler led the meeting in which the public made several suggestions.
The grant is for outdoor parks and recreation needs only. Some suggestions were shaded basketball courts, adult size softball fields, hiking trails, a community garden, and multi-task developments such as planting trees that will not only create shade, but also produce a fruit or nut.
If awarded, the grant will match up to $250,000 for the City’s use.
Suggestions for use will be taken until the end of August. If you would like to submit a suggestion, you can take it by City Hall or mail them to 520 Mena Street, Mena, AR 71953.
