The Son-Lighters In Action Card Shop made a $600 donation to the Mena/Polk County Senior Center on Monday, February 29, 2016. The group has donated a large portion of their earnings to the center for several years. The group has a card shop where they sell greeting cards of all kinds for 10 cents each. After their utilities are paid, they put the rest aside and when it’s built up to a good amount, they make a donation “to a worthy organization.”
“All the people who work at the card shop give of their time and travel expense,” said Janice Rogers, longtime volunteer. Roy and Cathy Anderle donate the building that is used, located at 3671 Highway 8 West in Mena. Pam Nance-DuPrez is the one who lines-up volunteers and pays the bills. Other volunteers are Frieda Romine, Jean Allen, Jeannie Bunyard, and Martha Nauet.
“We give a big thank you to our volunteers and also to those who support our work by buying cards at our shop,” said Rogers. The Son-Lighters In Action Card Shop is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12 – 3 p.m. at their location, one mile west of Louise Durham School. For those unable to make it to the shop, there is a display of cards available at the Mena Senior Center.
