[MENA] On August 7, 2013 the Polk County Sheriff’s Office arrested David Whelpley, age 30, on a warrant issued out of Kerr County, Texas for Sexual Assault 2nd Degree. Investigators with Kerr County gathered information during their investigation that Whelpley had fled Texas enroute to Cove, Arkansas. Moments after Whelpley arrived in Cove, he was arrested at Smith’s Grocery. Whelpley has signed extradition paperwork and has agreed to return to Texas.
Polk County Sheriff Mike Godfrey commented, “This is an excellent example of multi-agency cooperation to arrest a sex offender as quickly as possible.” Godfrey further commented that Whelpley has an extensive criminal history and is thankful to Kerr County for letting us know that type of offender is in our jurisdiction.
Whelpley is currently being held in the Polk County Detention Center on a $25,000 bond, and is awaiting extradition to Texas, which should happen some time this week or early next week.
