[MENA, Ark.] Polk County Judge Brandon Ellison has announced the retirement of Veterans Service Officer, Bob Toombs,, effective May 1, 2014. Toombs says he has considered it an honor and a privilege to serve our veterans for the past 8 years.
Judge Ellison said, “The Polk County VSO is losing one of the finest individuals I have ever known. Bob Toombs is a professional hard working, and compassionate man. He answered a providential call when he accepted this position many years ago. He has served Polk County and our veterans well and we will miss him dearly.” Toombs has also been featured as a Polk County Pulse Citizen of the Week in the June 29, 2011 issue. Newly appointed Service Officer Bryan Ham will begin his duties on May 1. Bryan is a U.S. Navy retiree and is looking forward to continuing this valuable service the area’s veterans, spouses, and dependents.
Speaking about Bryan, Judge Ellison said, “We know it is impossible to replace Bob, but, we believe Bryan Ham will do an outstanding job. He has very good credentials… he grew up in Polk County and has a heart for veterans. We are pleased to announce his appointment as the Polk County Veteran Service Officer.”
After some initial training, Bryan will be well-qualified to assume his duties, and invites all veterans and area residents to stop by and meet with him or Ms. Theresa Judkins to discuss assistance regarding veteran’s issues and benefits.
The Veterans Service Office is located in the basement of the Polk County Courthouse. The hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday and the phone number is 479-394-8148.
