The Sevier County Extension Office will host a program this month aimed at providing important, cost-saving practices for cattle producers in Southwest Arkansas.
Titled 300 Day Grazing, the program seeks to help producers reduce hay feeding and extend the grazing season through the majority of the year. The class is designed to address the needs on both small and large operations.
Sevier County Extension Agent Rex Herring will share information showing how producers can shave off expensive winter feeding through the 300 Days of Grazing program. Topics include rotational grazing for cow-calf operations, stockpiling Bermuda grass to extend the fall and winter grazing period, and incorporating winter annuals into a farm’s grazing program. Other programs include forage quality versus cow nutrient requirements and the economics of extended grazing programs.
The event has been scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 27 beginning at 6 p.m. in the Adam’s Building on UA Cossatot’s De Queen campus. RSVP by Jan. 25 by calling (870) 584-3013. A meal will be provided for those who register for the event.
