The Eugene Stevenson Scholar-Athlete Award has been presented to Saybra Richardson of Cossatot River High School.
The Scholar-Athlete Award is given each year to the Van-Cove senior who excels in athletics as well as scholarship. This is the twenty-second annual award of $1,000 to a Van-Cove senior given by Ed and Dorothy Stevenson of Mena in memory of his father, Eugene Stevenson. Mr. Stevenson was a 28-year member of the Van-Cove School Board who thought both athletics and scholarship were very important.
Saybra was chosen for the award based on character, contribution to sports, the community and the school district. She has been active in golf, basketball and softball. She has been selected All-Conference in softball for two years and All-conference and All-state in basketball. Saybra is active in the National Honor Society, Beta Club and History Club.
The daughter of Billy Richardson and Cindy Richardson, Saybra plans to attend Henderson State University and major in Marketing.
