Rural Fire Dept. Responds to Acorn Fire

Firefighters responded to a call just after 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 9th, where a large shed was in full blaze on Treasure Lane, just north of Acorn. The subject at the residence said he was burning leaves when the fire got out of hand and caught the nearby shed on fire. Firefighters from Acorn, Ink, and Cherry Hill Fire Departments, along with Polk County Sheriff’s Deputies and Polk County Emergency Management responded to the fire. Firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to a nearby home; however, the shed was a complete loss.

While firefighters were still mopping up on that fire call, the Potter Volunteer Fire Department was called to a report of a grass fire on the side of Hwy. 71 South, on Iron Mountain where a small area was on fire. No cause of that fire has been determined. At the time, officials said that the area was dry and with high wind gusts occurring that day the fire danger was increased.
