The Mena Ladycats hosted the 2016 Ladycat Classic Saturday, August 27th at Mena High and Mena Middle Schools, finishing as the tournament’s Runner-Up.
The Ladycats faced Lakeside in the Finals, falling to the Lady Rams 25-21 and 25-22.
In a tremendous battle, the Ladycats knocked off the Paris Lady Eagles in the semi-final round. Paris took the first game of the match 25-14. Mena battled back to win the second game 25-23 forcing a 15-point tiebreaker game.
The Ladycats knocked Paris out of the tournament with a 15-13 victory sending Mena to the Finals.
Earlier in the tournament, the Ladycats also defeated Malvern 25-12, 25-15 in their first match of the day and dominated Ashdown 25-16, 25-14 in their second match. However, the Ladycats fell to the Lakeside Lady Rams 25-19 and 25-21.
Mena got things back on track in their next match, smashing Cutter Morning Star 25-18, 25-10. The Ladycats followed with a victory over Lake Hamilton, defeating the Lady Wolves 25-15 and 25-21 to set up their match with the Paris Lady Eagles in the tournament’s semi-final round.
The Ladycats travel to Paris to take on the Lady Eagles Thursday, September 1st with games starting at 6 p.m.
