Street improvements on two high traffic areas in Mena are scheduled to begin Tuesday, September 17.
Approximately three to six inches are set to be milled from South Mena Street from Hwy 71 to Holly Street before it receives its new overlay. City officials discussed during a special called meeting in August that they are hopeful that the milling will help to resolve continual flooding issues experienced by some businesses located in the immediate downtown district. The work is being completed by C.F. Stocks Excavating at an estimated cost of $11,741.
Letters to business owners state that they estimate the street will be closed for approximately four days but businesses do plan to remain open.
Work to widen Morgan Street from Ransom Road to Bus Barn Road is complete. The normally quiet street experienced significant traffic increase when the new Mena High School was opened last year. City road crews have widened the road approximately 2 ft. and is now ready to receive new overlay.
One block of 3rd Street between Port Arthur and Church Streets is also scheduled to receive new overlay.
B&L Paving of Oden received the contract on the work with the low bid of $102/ton.
