Shirley Ann Thornton, age 83, of Mena, died Friday, March 6, 2020 at Peachtree Mena Assisted Living. She was born on Tuesday, February 2, 1937 to Antone and Louise Ella Osgood Nunes in Hartford, Connecticut.
Shirley loved God with all her heart. She spent eight years as a United Methodist Church Pastor in New England serving God. Her spirituality and love for God fueled her life and was of great importance to her. She attended the Rhode Island School of Design and later worked as an Architect for twelve years. She loved nature, sewing, making cloth dolls, and gardening. Shirley was the first woman Clerk of the Works in architecture. After moving to Mena Shirley became involved in many community activities. Some of her favorites were Ouachita Little Theatre, Community Choir, Polk County Democrats, and Remembering Hearts Forever. She was a very loving woman and enjoyed every moment with her family. Shirley was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend and will be missed by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her parents; and two sons, Kevin Pelletrier, and Michael Pelletrier.
Shirley is survived by one son, Kenneth Pelletrier of Exeter, Rhode Island; two daughters, Sandra Campanale of Narragansett, Rhode Island, and Teresa Spencer of Caribou, Maine; twenty grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
No services are planned at this time. Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena, AR.
