New Cossatot River Eagles Gym Dedicated

A dedication of the new Cossatot Eagles Gymnasium was held last Thursday, October 10, 2013 as black and silver combined to scrimmage in their first combined basketball action since the once rival school districts, Van-Cove and Wickes, merged to play together on the same team.

Mr. Ed Stevenson, who himself is a 1954 graduate of Van-Cove, was honored as those in attendance reflected on the numerous contributions made throughout his lifetime to South Polk County communities, as well as that of his father’s, Mr. Eugene Stevenson.

Stevenson told The Pulse, “My family and I are very honored to be remembered for the contributions made over the years. I am so thankful to see this merger and truly believe it is one of the most significant developments in South Polk County in the last 50 years.”

Stevenson said he is confident that his father was looking down on Thursday and very proud to see the progress made for the people of his hometown area.

The event was much more than a basketball game but that of a celebration in which many facets of the community and school had the opportunity to participate in.  The Senior Class held a chicken dinner fundraiser with  all of the proceeds going back to their alma mater. The band sold snowcones. The Cossatot River FCCLA was selling clothing bearing the new Eagle logo and chances to win a mini-iPad. The Eagles Booster Club was also selling Eagle clothing as well as chances to win a boat. But one of the highlights of the evening was when an estimated 70 spirit-filled mini-Eagle cheerleaders to the court to demonstrate what they had learned after participating in the first Eagle cheer camp.
