More than 7,000 Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) members, advisers, alumni, and guests from across the country gathered in Nashville, Tennessee, July 7-11 for FCCLA’s 2013 National Leadership Conference.

This conference was themed “Discover Your Voice” and challenged participants to confront the issues youth are facing today by gaining the necessary skills through leadership development and competitive events. Over 3,600 of the students took part in FCCLA’s Competitive Events and more than 20 students, including two from Arkansas ran for national FCCLA officer.

Acorn FCCLA members, Lydia Tilley and Cheyenne Blake brought home gold medals for their Senior Illustrated Talk, “Signing Off or Logging On,” addressing the issue of teen suicide prevention.

In addition to Tilley and Blake, Acorn FCCLA members Erica Goss and Jared Standridge also attended the meeting at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel. Jared served as a judge in the Virtual Poster STAR Event. Both Jared and Erica served as ushers at one of the student sessions.
