BY BARBARA M. TOBIAS –
Deborah Jean Cohen will demonstrate Navajo-style weaving at the Membership Meeting at 5:30 pm on May 20 at the gallery and will answer “how to” questions. You do not have to be a member of the gallery to attend.
Deborah is also an accomplished artist in many types of fiber art including spinning, knitting mittens, and crocheting Amigurumi, the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small stuffed animals and anthropomorphic creatures. She also raises sheep and llamas for fiber.
Deborah studied Navajo-style weaving in the southwest at Mary Walkers “Weaving in Beauty” boot camp, an immersion in all aspects of that style of weaving, fiber preparation and how the Navajo culture has influenced the art form.
She recently settled in Mena, where she and her husband have retired to a small farm.
After Deborah’s presentation, there will be a short business meeting.
