Hailey Knitting and Natalie Rose (JAG students) are filling backpacks with groceries so needy students at Mena High School can have food on the weekends.
This project was initiated by Rice Depot of Arkansas. They continue to support us monthly, but many times we run out of food. Mrs. Sheila Johnson has been instrumental in administering this program at MHS. The “introduction to teaching orientation class” under Cathy Marshall raised money in May to get us through the end of school. Then, we received a call from Jim S. saying that Nidec would like to help our program. They cooked at the Lum and Abner festival in Janssen Park, sold food, and donated all of the proceeds to the backpack program. This coming school year Art, JAG, and other students plan to help with this project.
Many thanks to all our help and if others want to participate just call MHS at 479-394-1144.
