The Mena Bearcats took on the Bauxite Miners, Thursday February 16th, in the second round of the 7-4A Senior Boys District Basketball Tournament at Nashville High School.
Mena started off slow, as the Bearcats allowed Bauxite to score eighteen points in the first quarter, to their eleven points. Making the score 18-11 in favor of the Miners, going into the second quarter. Neither team shot the ball well in the second, as both teams scored only eight points a piece. Keeping Bauxite’s seven point lead in place at halftime, with the score 26-19.
Number eleven, Cross Hughes, led the Mena Bearcats with 8 points at halftime.
The third quarter was pretty evenly matched, as both teams scored bucket after bucket, but Bauxite was able to outscore the Bearcats 15-14, to extend their lead to eight going into the final quarter of play, with the score 41-33. The Bearcats were within four points multiple times in the fourth quarter, but couldn’t finish Bauxite off. Both teams went on to score nineteen points a piece in the last quarter, as the Miners defeated Mena by eight points, 60-52.
Cross Hughes led the Bearcats with 14 total points in the game, while Connor Harvey added on 11 points of his own, Blake Seals 9 points, Zeb Wilson 7 points, Nick Myers 5 points, and Darius Simms, Brock Strother and Carson Cannon 2 points.
The Bearcats will play their next game, Saturday February 18th, at 4:45pm at Nashville High School against the Robinson Senators.
