The Mena Bearcat’s basketball season will continue on after a swift win in the first round of the 7-4A Senior High District Tournament over the Fountain Lake Cobras Tuesday night.
Mena’s only points in the first quarter came via free throws, as neither team started off very swell on the offensive side of the ball. The Cobras scored only six points in the first, but held a 6-4 lead after one. The Bearcats took the lead a few different times in the second quarter, but both teams notched ten points of their own, to get the scoring margin the same. At halftime, the Fountain Lake Cobras led Mena by two, 16-14.
Johnson and Murphy led the Cobras at halftime with 4 points apiece, while Connor Harvey led Mena with 8 points.
The Bearcats more than doubled their score in the third quarter, as Mena scored nineteen points to the Cobras thirteen, to take a 33-29 lead into the final quarter of play. In the fourth, both teams continued to shoot the ball well, as forty-four total points were scored, but the Bearcats outscored Fountain Lake 26-18, to go home winners by a score of 59-47.
Murphy led the Fountain Lake Cobras with 17 points.
Connor Harvey led the Mena Bearcats with 20 points, as Cross Hughes chipped in 14 points, Blake Seals 10 points, Nick Myers 6 points, Ty Cole 4 points, Zeb Wilson 3 points and Carson Cannon 2 points.
