So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:16-18
What a beautiful reminder to keep our eyes pointed vertically upward so that our focus and our vision is continuously pointing to God. When we begin to look around horizontally, how easy it is to become ensnared by the things and temptations of this world that take our focus off of Him. With the blood that was shed for us, we should desire to live a life for eternity … a life of service and witness that desires to please our Creator and not focus on pleasing our own flesh. A life lived for Him may not be full of treasures/rewards on this earth but our Heavenly Father is holding them for us in our eternal home.
