Mena Art Gallery will be accepting entries for its August Exhibit on July 31 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Any artwork made of fiber is eligible. For full details (and to get an entry form that you can print) go to www.MenaArtGallery.org and click on “Textiles” under “Exhibits” in the left-hand menu. Or you can pick up an entry form at the gallery, 607 Mena Street. There will be a reception on Saturday, August 3, from 1 to 3 pm. Many of the artists will be there and ready to answer “How in the world did you do that?” questions. The show will be on display through September 3.
Last year’s fiber show featured some really elegant pieces in a wide variety of media: quilted, knitted, crocheted, woven, and several others that I’m not quite sure how they were made! We’d be delighted if you came up with a new category.
If you have any doubt about whether your particular masterpiece is eligible, please call the gallery at 479-394-3880 and talk to Jane Brace, Executive Director. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays.
And if you are a fiber artist, you’ll be interested to know that a group of local fiber artists have decided to meet at the gallery on Tuesdays at 11 a.m. There will not be formal classes, but it is a great place to learn what other artists in this field are doing and how. Besides, it’s fun! So just bring your current project and drop in when it’s handy for you—they will be there at least for a couple of hours.
