A fire has consumed the home of William and Belva Deramus this afternoon on Oaklawn Drive in the Rogers Addition in Mena. The home was being leased by Orville and Sandy Wagner.
Mena Fire Department was dispatched at approximately 3 p.m. and quickly called the Acorn Rural Volunteer Fire Department to assist. Firefighters battled the blazes amid 95-plus degree temperatures.
Sandy said her 85-year old mother and Orville were home at the time of the fire but unaware until neighbors came to get them out. Both were able to leave the home uninjured. The couple had not yet purchased renter’s insurance for the contents.
Sandy said her mother has failing health and said while she is heartbroken at the loss, she is just so grateful that both were uninjured in the incident.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
