Employees from the Mena-Oden Ranger District of the Ouachita National Forest recently collected and delivered, along with the help of Smokey Bear, almost 100 pounds of food for the Backpack Program at Mena public schools.
Through the Backpack Program, children are able to take a backpack of kid-friendly, ready-to-eat, or simple-to-prepare food home each week to give them something to eat on the weekends while away from school.
“In this season of thanksgiving and gratitude, it is rewarding to be able to help our community in this way,” stated Chris Morgan, District Silviculturist at the Mena-Oden Ranger District. “Smokey Bear was excited to participate in the delivery, and we were happy to donate to this worthwhile program.”
